With the introduction of the "motion/logic control" of third generation the OEM have had the possibility to avoid the PLC and further, all the motion control producers as well: Rockwell Automation, Elau, Siemens; Indramat, B&R and so on) adopted a unique programming platform (IEC61131 and followings) that allows the trasportability of a function and/or function block from one motion control to another one in a very short time without rewrite the entire application program.
The trend is to split the application program into functions and function blocks in order to be tested in a way more easy and fast.
The "function blocks" and "functions" written in structured text are totally compatible with the main "Motion/Logic Control" on the market as well: Rockwell Automation, Elau, Indramat, Siemens, B&R and so on.
